Well friends, it’s been some time since we’ve last blogged. Perhaps some of you are becoming anxious wanting to see some photos of the pregnant woman…Well, I can’t promise any new pics quite yet, but here are some new photos of a recent trip from my brother Greg, his wife Rhiana and our little nephew Lukey.
One of the reasons for the blog hiatus has been the starting of a job. I am thankful to have been hired by World Relief (Aurora) as a Resettlement Case Manager working with refugees. World Relief is a non-profit organization that receives and works with hundreds of refugees declared to be so by the United Nations. Since I began working (three weeks ago), we have received families from Burundi, who were at refugee camps in Tanzania, as well as Burmese families, who were at camps in Myanmar (Burma renamed) and Thailand. So far the job has been quite a challenge and continues to be so; I still have much to learn about the job and much to catch up on, but I am enjoying the opportunity in a cross-cultural setting. World Relief serves refugees by: finding them a place to live, helping with the first couple months of rent, employment services, english and job classes, counseling services, youth activities for the children, and by working with and connecting refugee families with local churches, volunteers and people in the communities. You can check out World Relief’s website at www.wr.org to learn more about its ministry and volunteer opportunities. There are both national and international offices, maybe there is an office near you!
